Don't you know that sardines are served only with royalties before? Yes, you read it right. These small fishes are served in oil and salt by the royal chefs. It was in the later 18th century when the sardines in tomato sauce were concocted.

Sardines came from the family of the Clupaeiden like the herring. It is usually a small fishes that are covered with shimmering scales.

Sardines are considered as the survival food as of today. People especially Filipinos are fond of eating sardines. It was the Spaniard who brought this food to the Philippines. You can usually see this food on the table of the not so fortunate people or during the Holy week as the pork or meat are not allowed to eat [for Catholics]. But hey, donĂt you underestimate these small fishes. This food has loads and loads of vitamins and minerals that are good to the body. One of these vitamins is Omega 3 that is good for the heart and brain.
